Alan Stunning views and silence greet you every morning. Accommodation is a superb lodge for all occasions. Days out walking or driving observing the numerous lakes, cliffs, mountains, waterfalls, valleys, stunning coastline and beaches are never far away. Visiting quaint little towns, pub lunches and meeting friendly locals is the bare minimum in Ireland’s smallest but friendliest county.

Eco-destressing at its best. We stayed at Tawnylust Lodge for the weekend. It was a wonderfully restful break. Nuala was so welcoming, friendly and helpful it made our break even more relaxing. The accommodation was well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and welcome after a day of activity. We went walking and foraging, there are plenty of places locally where you can enjoy these activities. Combined with historical sites and great roads for cycling this is a great area for filling your weekend with invigorating pastimes, or just sitting in the main room of the lodge and looking out the window at an amazing view for hours at a time, watching the weather sweep across the mountains opposite. We left with our batteries recharged, planning our next break at Tawnylust Lodge.

Peaceful Tawnylust Lodge was a pure delight to return to each day after the hectic driving on the left, trying to see and do everything on the to do list. We absolutely loved the heated tile floor in the bathroom. Nuala was so helpful in walking us thru how everything worked- the shower- the lock- where things were located. Did we have a special interest? She arranged a walk for us with a local expert on Mt Thur and a tour of Sean MacDiamada homestead. Where to best get a bus to Belfast. The lodge is located central enough that it was an easy drive to the sites to the west like Knock and Croagh Patrick, the north to Donegal, the east to Belfast. And at the end of the day there was the patio looking down over the sheep meadows and the mountains beyond and the quiet ending to a beautiful day - sheep baaing, birds singing, a cow mooing- pure delight!

Delightful. We booked this trip as a last minute treat and were pleasantly surprised. On arrival to the apartment we received a very warm welcome from Nuala and were absolutely delighted with the accommodation. Beautiful setting with outdoor seating where you could sit and eat and take in the amazing views around you. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Wi-fi on-site too was a welcome addition. Nuala had herbs and salads growing outside which you were invited to help yourself to. There was a Welcome basket with organic goodies too. Really can't fault the place. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay Nuala. Hope to be back soon 🙂

Perfect getaway with stunning views in Leitrim My husband and I had stayed here for a long weekend and had the most lovely time. The view of the surrounding countryside from the front window is just beautiful. We enjoyed just sitting there watching all the lambs playing in the nearby field. The one-bedroom apartment has everything you'll need. The bed is really comfortable and the surroundings are so quiet at night that its easy to get a great nights sleep. The host, Nuala McNulty, is extremely helpful and is available as little or as much as you want for recommendations in the area. She even provided us drop-off/pick-up service to the nearby village of Manorhamilton one evening so we could enjoy a local pub crawl without having to worry about driving. Nuala has put together easy maps for beautiful local walking spots and recommendations for unique local spots such as The Organic Centre. We couldn't recommend Tawnylust Lodge enough and look forward to our next getaway there to explore more of Leitrim.

The perfect self-catering accommodation in Ireland! Location! Location! Several years ago, I was fortunate to find myself living for a year in the wild and woolly hills of North Leitrim, Ireland. This month I returned there, taking my daughter and her husband. We stayed at Nuala McNulty's self-catering apartment Tawnylust Lodge - the exact spot where I lived for the first four months of my year-long residency. I could not have chosen a better spot to nest and to fall in love with the best-kept secret in all of Ireland! No matter which direction you look from Tawnylust Lodge the view is spectacular ~ The apartment has a patio and a large picture window - the perfect vista for daydreaming. You are surrounded by green pasture land, and stunning hills. The sky provides an endless and changing panorama. Truly, a feast for the eyes and solace for the busy mind. There is so much to explore in this area and Tawnylust Lodge is the perfect home base!

A place of tranquillity Stayed for 3 nights - would love to stay longer. The self service apartment is spotless, modern and spacious. It is located in a beautiful area and a short drive away from the wild atlantic. Nuala, the host is very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return and would highly recommend it.

Andrea + Carsten We both felt very well: A cozy little apartment offers everything, a fantastic view, restful peace and last but not least a friendly and warm hostess Nuala, on request always good tips. As a wheelchair user, I managed without any problems in all rooms and surroundings. We got to know spectacular landscapes with extraordinary natural beauties (wild coasts, rough mountains, romantic lakes), everywhere references to the history of the country (stone age megalithic tombs, early christian monasteries, medieval castles, etc.) and many, many friendly people. Nualas apartment in Leitrim is also a great base for exploring the neighboring counties and Northern Ireland. You can arrive with little luggage, as a washing machine is available and you always wear the same things in the climate anyway. Important are windbreaker, hat and scarf. Finally, we can only say: Thank you Nuala and see you again! Andrea + Carsten

An abundance of views, peace, tranquility and lovely people I stayed here recently and can not fault anything. The apartment was clean, cosy, quiet and amazing views.. your stay is made even better by the lady owner. Nuala is very welcoming, friendly and a fountain of local knowledge. I stayed for a quiet break on my own to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet, to chill outside in the sun with a good book and awesome view. There was a lovely welcome basket with some local produce in it. Nuala also supplied some essentials such as tea, coffee, sugar etc. The apartment is also wheelchair accessible with a roll in shower. I notice these things as my husband is in a wheelchair and it is very hard to find places he can stay in. Hopefully I will get to stay here in the future and bring my husband. There are trails, walks, fishing and a multitude of activities to do while here if that is what you are looking for. Or if like me you just want to relax and take a break from everyday stresses this is the place for you. Thank you Nuala for a lovely break. I will definitely be staying again in the future

Eco Escapes

Tawnylust Lodge has been listed by Catherine Mack in the book Ecoescapes as one of the top 50 Eco destinations in Ireland.

“Nuala McNulty is so passionate about her home county of Leitrim, that she added a guest annex onto her new state-of-the-art wooden house, overlooking the Ballinabehy Ridge in the Leitrim hills. ‘That’s why I built it. I love to share Leitrim’, she said in Ecoescape Ireland, which featured Tawnylust in its top 50 Irish ecoescapes. Hospitality comes top of the list for Nuala who leaves a welcome parcel for her guests, full of local chutneys, jam, herbs, elderflower cordial and fair-trade chocolate. Her second love is the environment, and the house was built with this at the forefront of the design process. It has passive solar heating, solar panels for hot water, low wattage under floor heating, recycled paper insulation, an inbuilt heat recovery system, and electricity from a renewable energy company. Nuala likes to keep things local too, with Leitrim artists’ work on the walls and information on local markets and cooperatives. Walking is central to a stay at Tawnylust, and Nuala is the founder of a local hill-walking club, Holey Soles. She also works closely with a local walking guide, Tina Pommer and together they run Leitrim Landscapes walking package holidays. Tina is an expert in Leitrim’s archaeology, nature, wild mushrooms as well as foraging. If you want to get to know eco-Leitrim, this is one of its greenest spots, and you will be hosted by one of its best sources of local knowledge. With this combination, you won’t fail to fall in love with Leitrim too.”

Naked Hungry Traveller

“Leitrim Landscapes Guided Walks owner Nuala McNulty covers the county from an environmental perspective. She knows more about the hidden eco-tourism wonders of this region better than anyone. I’ve been walking with her for two hours while the fickle weather takes a turn for the worse. Driving rain prevents us from climbing a nearby hill for its western views over County Sligo to the Atlantic Ocean. Instead we follow a flooded river down a steep valley, past a waterfall, slipping and sliding on smooth stones, exchanging stories about curious characters we’ve met here and elsewhere on our individual travels…” read full review
